Rings are symbolic tokens of love that have been used for centuries. The origins of engagement rings and wedding rings are the same. The ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans have been using rings for a long time. Betrothal rings symbolize a woman's connection to a man who is to become her husband. The rings were worn by Romans as symbols of strength and permanence. Greeks had the initial idea of wearing the ring on the fourth hand on the left. This is the where the vein of love is thought to be.

Engagement rings should be chosen with much thought. This is a symbol of commitment and love, much like the wedding ring, which will last forever. What is The Cushion Shape

The cushion cut diamond engagement ring resembles a stuffed cushion, hence the name, which is either rectangular or square with rounded corners and it has a puffy appearance. Cushion cuts became immensely popular in the 1800s and the early 1900s. It was also referred to as a pillow cut because it closely resembled a plump pillow. It was also called a candlelight diamond because it was most brilliant in candlelight. The cut is usually multi-faceted to give the highest possible light refraction. It filters a large volume of light, which makes cushion cut diamond engagement rings one of the most brilliant and sparkling diamond cuts.

The cut is known by other names:

  • Peruzzi cut
  • Triple cut brilliant
  • Old miner or old mine

Cushion Cut Diamond

The most popular style of engagement ring is the Diamond solitaire. The cuts include the cushion cut diamond solitaire. Tiffany, a jewelry company known the world over, introduced the cushion cut solitaire engagement rings design about 100 years ago. The Tiffany solitaire setting enhanced the brilliance and luster of the diamond by introducing the first "open mount". This allowed light to travel freely through the precious stone differing from all previous settings which had restrictive closed backs. Antique cushion cut engagement rings command a very high price.

Quality of the Diamond

A cushion cut diamond has approximately 60 facets-up to 20 more facets fewer than modern rings. Cushion cuts incorporate a cutlet in the stone to add depth, however, an overly large cutlet tends to create a deep shadow within the stone, and this will obscure the beauty of the stone. Clarity is very critical because the stones have fewer facets. This will make even the minor flaws noticeable.

Tips on Buying Cushion Cut engagement rings

  • Evaluate rings correctly. There are four C's to evaluate a ring. These are the color, the clarity and the cut. The cut is how the diamond itself is cut. The color relates to the fact that some diamonds are really, really white and some diamonds are yellowish. The whiter the diamond, the more value it has. Unfortunately though, a lot of diamonds are more in the yellowish category. When purchasing a diamond, make sure it is graded on the color criteria. The carat is the weight of the diamond. You won't see the difference with your naked eye but you'll pay a lot less for a 1.95 or 1.9 carats than a complete two carats.
  • Buy a diamond that looks gorgeous but is lower on the clarity criteria. The clarity criterion simply means that the diamond has fewer imperfections. These imperfections, however, can only be seen with a microscope. The higher the clarity of a diamond, the lesser the imperfections. Again, most imperfections are not seen by the naked eye.
  • Purchase online. Searching online gives you more choices and the best thing is you will not be harassed by hungry salespeople. Cost is also cheaper online since the cost of online advertisement is cheaper and the jeweler does not have to pay a lot of tax. Remember however, that the ring costs a lot of money, so make sure that get in touch with trusted
