How To Rank Your Hub High In Google
58If you want to know how to get your hubpage ranked in google, especially on the first page, then you are in the right place. With this hub I'll tell you how I was able to get not one but two of my hubs on the first page of google, and how you can too. I'll include tips, hints, methods, strategies, etc -- all with the aim of helping you earn more money and get more visibility with hubpages.
Why Even Get Ranked?
Hubpages currently has almost 1.2 Million users (and growing), along with about 857,000 hubs. Now, I am certainly no expert on "hubology" but I would guess that most hubbers are looking to earn some added income from their writing. Hubpages is a great place to come and write about your passions and interests, share new information with the world, and profit from it.
Unfortunately, I bet most hubs don't earn nearly as much as they could. Or, they don't earn anything at all. Does this sound familiar to you? If you are nodding and are familiar with putting in tons of time to see little or no monetary return on your effort, you may be a few steps closer to that missing puzzle piece.
The best way to earn more money with hubpages, and to reach the goals you have set, is to get more traffic and visitors to your hubs. More traffic equals more ad impressions. More ad impressions equals more clicks, more purchases, and more money in your bank account.
How do you get more traffic? By getting a hub ranked on the first page of google. Why Google? According to a press release by Experian Hitwise, Google's users accounted for 72.17% of all web searches in May 2010. Therefore, getting a hub ranked in google gives us the absolute best shot at getting tons of traffic.
How To Get Your Hub Ranked In Search Engines
In order to get ranked in any search engine:
1) You want your page to be relevant.
2) You want your page to be reputable.
We can create hubs that are both relevant and reputable by 1) writing great, high quality content; 2) practicing on-page SEO basics; and 3) getting quality links pointing to our hubs.
That's it. Now, I'll break it down even further for you:
What Does Great, High Quality Content Mean?
I believe that both hubpages and google share a "mission": to provide their users with the most useful and high quality content possible. Naturally, they develop their algorithms to weed out or filter content that doesn't serve much of a purpose, and they reward quality, helpful, and popular content by giving it prominence.
"Great content" is not that hard to produce! In a hub, it's something that contains a lot of helpful information - at least 1000 words. Your hub must answer some kind of question, preferably a question that a web searcher might have in their mind. I don't mean to say that you need to literally have questions and answers in your hub pages -- you just need to answer any questions in your reader's mind. If you do this naturally you will be rewarded.
If your hubs information has become outdated or stale, update it! Even if the information isn't changing with time, it's always a good idea to update hubs with information that you may become aware of.
Writing helpful, purposeful, great quality content is half the battle. Think you can handle that?
What Is On Page SEO?
Here are the basics of on-page SEO: In layman's terms, on-page SEO is the practice of helping search engines understand exactly what your hub is about, and helping them rank it. Doing on-page SEO is another contributing factor to getting ranked in search engines.
Here's what you need to do:
- Include a keyword or two in your hub page title. If you are writing a hub about Iguana Pet Care, a bad title would be "How To Care In The Best Way Possible For Your Iguana Friend". A good title would be "Iguana Pet Care - How To Best Take Care Of Your Iguana". You can see there that "Iguana Pet Care" and "Iguana" gets some prominence. Using a lengthy and complicated titles is not the best way to go.
- Use tags - pick some of the most basic ones as well as some of the more rare ones. Using tags can increase your hub's relevancy and can also help distribute page rank to it. Those may be complicated terms to someone who is not familiar with SEO but the point is this: tags matter.
- Get links from other hubs pointing to your hub, either from your other hubs or from friends you contact here on hubpages. (Sidenote: doing this is also a great way to boost your hubkarma score!)
- In your hub's content, include phrases related to your keyword and it's topic. Instead of repeating "Iguana Pet Care" over and over again, use different variations of it. This can also be accomplished by looking at other related materials on your topic and including frequently or prominently mentioned phrases in your hub. You will want to make sure you do this naturally through your writing; don't stuff a bunch of things in one paragraph. There are also keyword tools online that can give you related phrases to include but 95% of the time, simply writing quality and natural content is enough.
- Make sure you only have 100% original, human-written content in your hubs.
Great Article Directories For Getting Links
Here are a few of my favorite article directories for getting a link back to my hubs:
- ezinearticles.com
- buzzle.com
- helium.com
- goarticles.com
- articledashboard.com
- amazines.com
- articlerich.com
- articlecity.com
- And many more out there!
Links: The Biggest Key To Getting Ranked
Getting Quality Links Pointing To Your Hubs
It has been said that links pointing to pages on the internet are like "votes" to a search engine, and the page with the best and most "votes" gets to be #1. I should emphasize "best" - because not all links pointing to your hubs are created equal. Getting a link from say, twitter, is a lot different than getting a link from say, CNN. You see the difference?
The key to getting your hubs ranked in google is links. Here are some tips for getting links to your hubs:
- Let it happen naturally. By creating the highest quality content that you are capable of producing, you stand an extremely great chance of getting links naturally. Someone may be a blogger looking for a resource to send their visitors, and link to your hub. This kind of thing is great and is what you should be aiming for!
- We can also build links ourselves. Tools like ezinearticles.com allow us to write articles with a "resource link" pointing back to our website (or in this case, hub page). This is extremely effective for both a) driving user traffic to your hub, and b) getting yet another "vote" to your hub - this time from ezinearticles.com. There are tons of article directories out there that will let you write and post articles that contain a link back to your hub.
- You will get better quality links if you submit 5 articles to 5 different article directories, rather than 5 articles to 1 article directory. More link diversity is better.
- You can also get a link from authority sites on your topic. This is very effective! Try to find a blog or information website and contact them asking if they would allow you to write an article on your hub's topic to put on their website. In the article, put a link (or "vote") back to your hub along with some information about yourself. This helps get a link to your hub but also can help you establish yourself as an expert in your field. I know people who have even gotten freelance writing gigs doing this.
- Use only quality, original content when building links. Using duplicate or spam content could have potential negative consequences (i.e. search engine spam).
- You will want to optimize your links. In your link, use the anchor text that you would like to get ranked for. However, you must use variation. Using the same anchor text over and over again lots of times in every link could be seen as spam.
- Do NOT do any of these things: Create web properties or user accounts and spam your link/hub around; Use "seo software" that "automates the links process"; Buy links; "Cloak" or hide links; etc. These methods are called black hat SEO and I explicitly condemn the use of any black hat tactic to get your hub ranked in google. Don't risk your online income in favor of doing something that appears "quick and easy"! Not worth it.
Other Tips For Getting A Hub Ranked
- Linking out does not do much to get your hub ranked in search engines. You should link out to sites to serve your readers and give them more information and tools, but do not expect it to be responsible for getting you on the first page of search engine results. You will definitely be able to get ranked even if you never link out from your hubs. Just get links pointing to your hubs and follow all the other steps/tips that I've previously covered.
- It takes time and dedicated work to get ranked in search engines. If you want instant income overnight, these methods are not for you.
- Links that are "nofollow", such as links from forums, blog comments, twitter, social networking sites, or even hubpages comments, do not contribute to getting ranked in search engines. In essence, a "nofollow" link is not seen as a "vote" in the eyes of a search engine.
- Adding videos, news capsules, and making your hub "look good" does not impact or contribute your ranking in google. It may serve your readers, and it can help you build a great hub, and help you in other ways (like hub score, hub rank, etc), but search engines only look at quality, relevance, and reputation. Content and links.
- Try to pick small topics/niches for your hubs. Getting a hub about "puppies" to rank in a search engine would be really hard, but a hub on "different types of chihuahua puppies" is much different (and easier).
- You can use keyword tools like the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to look up keywords and see how much they are searched every month, what their competition is, etc. Generally speaking, a keyword that is searched less will be easier to rank. A keyword that is searched 1 million times per month would take a lot, and I mean a lot of links.
- It is much easier to write about something you are passionate and/or knowledgeable about, rather than some "lucrative" keyword. Isn't everyone's dream in life to make money doing something related to what you are passionate about?
In Closing...
Getting your hub ranked in a search engine means that you'll get more traffic. You'll get traffic from people searching for your keyword/topic, who are looking for quality content and information.
Getting this traffic and these searchers to your hub serves two purposes: It helps people find what they are looking for, and it makes you money. It's a win-win situation!
By using the practices, methods, and tips I've laid out here in this hub, you can successfully build hubs that rank in search engines.
Are you skeptical? My hub about "pink laptops" is on the first page of Google and was at position #7 at last check! It works!
