The baby's room should be ready when you bring the infant home. True, some parents would like to keep their babies close to them for the first few weeks or days, however, the baby will inevitably need to settle into an abode all to himself or herself. The nursery is a special place for you and your baby. This is where most of the diaper duties happen. First and foremost, it should be comfortable because you and your baby will be spending lots of time in the nursery.

Thought should be given to the nursery decor. Things should not be selected in a haphazard way. There should be harmony with the baby nursery decoration. There are many things needed in a baby's room. You have to purchase furniture, mats and other things. Always keep in mind the baby's comfort. 

The usual things you can find in a nursery are baby hampers, changing mats, a crib and newborn baby clothes. Most people also purchase easy chairs or cushioned rocking chairs. This helps in putting the baby to sleep. It will also help to get a footstool which is suitable for your height. You can also find changing tables in almost all nurseries. A changing table with a built-in rail around the perimeter is suitable. The rail should be at least a few inches higher than the pad to help keep the little one from rolling off. If the changing table does not have a rail, then make sure that the changing mat has a safety strap or belt. Babies may be little creatures but they move really fast so it is extremely important that they be kept in one place while you change them. A changing table with one or two chests will let you store and have easy access to diaper supplies with just one hand.

Aside from the furnishings for the baby, you'll also need furnishings for the people who will be spending a lot of time in the nursery room with the baby. Make sure that everyone has an area where they can relax and be comfortable. There is no need to spend money on decorations on the first few months. Babies cannot see details until they are six months old or so. Just about any color scheme will work, however, it is best to choose colors on the clear, light side.

• Space. Is the baby's room large or small? This will help you decide what furnishings to get. If the baby's room is large, then the furniture can be spread. However, if it is small, it is best to purchase furniture with dual purpose. You will have double the use for single furniture.
• Furniture. This will depend largely on the budget. Some people are fortunate enough to receive items from friends and relatives at no cost. Again, for a small room, you will want furniture with more than one purpose. For example, a dresser with an edge on top can also serve as a changing table. Consider adding shelves on the wall for additional space for knick knacks. Check garage sales and thrift stores for cheap, one of a kind piece which can be added to the baby's room.
• Pattern Play. It is important to take pattern play into consideration when thinking of nursery decorating ideas. Intricate patterns create a visual feast in a room. 

• Color Play. The color scheme is a factor which should be given much attention. For boys, the most popular themes are animals and vehicles. These are tried and tested concepts with enticing schemes. 
• Bedding. Make sure that the bedding you purchase complements the nursery theme. There are many bedding options online. Most crib sets also come with comforter, crib sheet, bumper pad and crib ruffle. Accessories can also be bought to complement the crib set. If you find something you like in a catalog and you know a talented seamstress, you can have the bedding handmade.
