If you want to become a certified nursing assistant, you must undergo training and pass certification. There are lots of courses online and many local colleges offer assistant nursing courses. Most often an associate degree will be sufficient, but for people who want a more advanced degree, there are bachelor’s level programs available.

Ask yourself first if you really intend to be a CNA. Joining a CNA training program and working as a CNA is not very nice as you aggravate the shortage in the nursing field and you deny a career option to some other deserving candidate. If you do not like taking care of old people with altimers or other ailments and if you would rather peddle anti aging products, then this is not the profession for you.

  1. Check the newspaper or local employment magazines for nursing homes or hospitals that are advertising free CNA training in the area. If you can’t find any through the newspapers, they try using the phonebook. Call the human resource department of your local hospitals and check if they train CNAs in their facilities. 3. Apply for the training position. Most would require you to attend a job interview. Companies interview potential CNAs and they then decide who are the right persons to be included in the training program. Do not get discouraged is you are not picked by a certain facility. Try again.
  4. The CNA Scholarship Programs which is funded by the states Department of Public Health is another source. While you will be enrolling for a paid CNA program, the scholarship will take care of all the costs. Sometimes you may also get a nursing home to provide you with free CNA training classes by agreeing to work for them for a certain period of time. When you sign the contract, there is no going back, so think it over first. Make sure that you are mentally ready before taking on the job.
  5. The Air Force Aid Society Spouse Employment Program has been recently approved to offer the CNA program. The Air Force Aid Society will be paying spouses of military to become CNA.
