Grilling is one of the many food preparations which we use to serve nutritious, healthy and quick meals. Barbecues and grills are some of the best ways to bond with family and friends. There can be nothing than talking with friends over barbecues and cold beers and other beverages.
Electric grills are just one type of grills which people use to grill in their patios, pool sides or anoutdoor kitchen. The electric grill is a popular alternative for gas grills or charcoal grills. The electric grill has gained a lot of attention over the last decade. It is an efficient and safe way to grill all sorts of food. The electric grill provides quick and easy options for enjoying the taste of grilled food without the mess
Electric grills are constructed with a grate which is placed just above the electric heating elements. Numerous types of electric grills have a drip pan located underneath the elements to catch any juice that run off the meat and other items during the grilling process.
There are many types of electric grills, just like there are many char broil grill parts out there. There are outdoor electric grills and indoor electric grills. You will also be able to find electric bbq grills and of course an electric sandwich grill.
Types and Advatages of Electric Grills
- Open model grills. This has the same feel and look as traditional grills; however, it does not provide the same flavor. One example is the electric barbecue grill.
- Contact grills. These are named so because of its increased contact with food. They appear to sandwich the food as they cook it. Food is pressed between two plates that have ridges, which cook the food from top to bottom.
- Combination type grills. These are combinations of both the open and the contact type. They are expensive but they serve the same purpose as both.
There are lots of reasons why it is far better to use electric grills.
- Consistent cooking surface. Electric grills have even heat across the entire grill. They are more reliable when it comes to consistency compared to the other types like gas or charcoal.
- Heats up quickly. Electric grills get going in a short time. When you use charcoal or gas you will need to wait ten to fifteen minutes. Electric units require little time for warm up.
- Can be used indoors. One of the huge selling factors of the electric grill is it can be used inside. Even if it is raining, you can still enjoy your barbecues and grilled meats. With an indoor electric grill, no matter what the weather is, no one and nothing can stop you from grilling.
- Low maintenance. Electric grills are easier to take care of compared to gas powered ones or charcoal ones. There is no messy residue and there is no need to replace propane tanks. All you need is a power outlet and you are good to go. Propane is getting expensive these days and charcoal burns too quick.
Disadvantages of Using Electric Grills
Electric grills are far from perfect. Just like anything in this world, it has its pros and cons. Listed below are some of the reasons why people do not use electric grills.
- Lacks the flavor of a charcoal grill. Grilling enthusiasts do not like the idea of using anything but charcoal to grill. For most people the taste of meat grilled on electric units are delicious enough, however, picky eaters are not that pleased with the taste.
- Awkward to use outdoors. Electric grills are not made for the outdoors. You will need a power outlet on your patio to operate the grill. If you don’t have one then you will have to go through the hassle of running an extension cord from the inside. You also cannot take them to picnics or to the beach. Their usage is limited.
- Not as much fun as other grills. Cooking with real fire and grilling the traditional way is just different from preparing food on an electric grill. It is more fun setting fire to the charcoals and then cooking a steak or a barbecue on it. You don’t get to do either of those things with the electric grill.
